Anniversary

Yesterday, by my best reckoning, is the 6th anniversary of the last time I took psychiatric "medications". If you've known me during this time, you've seen me blossom and seen how much I can do to help others, which was not possible under those horrible drugs. I also have damaged - but healing, despite my doctors' assertions - kidneys from that time. After nearly 40 years on doctor-administered drugs (which were so bad as to keep me from wanting to get involved in any other drugs), now I have been clean for six. What a world of difference this has made! Ask any of the 375 people in the ALT-therapies4bipolar Yahoogroup, or the 90 members of my Med Free or Working On It Ning page (http://medfree.ning.com). I am still in the process of becoming everything I wish to be, but amaze myself and my friends who have seen me grow. May you get the support you need in your life to face whatever challenges you have, as I have... and if I have been part of that support, I'm so glad to have been there.

My longest-time distance student informed me tonight that she wanted me to come handfast her and her guy on October 30, followed on the 31st by the handfasting of her friend. I think I've talked her out of it, and maybe into a Mabon (Autumnal Equinox) handfasting. Getting married on Samhain is about as bad as a Christian getting married on Black Saturday (day before Easter), I mean, it's nice that they wanted their ancestors there, but it's really too much and would affect their marriage.

Other issues: what ritual to use or craft... whether my licenses are valid in their county (some counties require that ministers have a physical church in that county)... and whether they want to come get me or just send me a bus ticket (the bus would be cheaper, but we'd have more time to visit on the drive). If anyone has other issues, please bring them up.

Another option might be for them to drive down here and have me do the handfasting here, but that might bring up other issues, such as residency and marriage license requirements.

At present, the perfect woman is in Ice Queen Mode, so I'm alone again for all intents and purposes. I'm taking care of myself. My EP 3rd Quarter check came in, not quite as good as projected but still moving ahead. It's getting to where I need to keep silent about a lot of stuff, which has never been my strong suit.

I did get asked to do a paid gig at a local church, substituting on my 12-string guitar for their pianist. It went extremely well... y'all know that a church is not normally my best place, but it didn't burn down and everyone said I was awesome. Hard to turn down a gig where you're paid $60 for a bit of practice and an hour's worth of on-and-off work.

I've been really busy since Friday with a fundraiser for Asheville Homeless Network, which will be over Saturday morning. Put over $200 in the bank so far as of tomorrow morning. If any of ya would like to support AHN, you can use PayPal to send money to ashevillehomeless@yahoo.com.

Another wonderful festival

I had a great weekend at SerpentStone Harvest, despite a lack of sleep making me whinier than usual. The end result was, I learned a lot of things, had a great time with a wonderful bunch of people, and have a new girlfriend. I needed all of that, I've been working my butt off for the homeless the past couple of weeks (and more this week). It's nice to have someone who needs me without being needy, and is there for me without being controlling, who shares my spirituality (different flavor, same ice cream) and even would like my editing experience on her somewhat-finished book. Now I just need transportation for the 120 miles that lay between us for the time being. Jai Ganesha Jai! Lord Ganesha stepped in so many times this weekend to make things happen that there is no way to thank Him properly. Of course, I stuck to my guns and the path he set before me, or nothing would have worked... nothing worse than a whiner who won't get off his ass to change things, and I am not that ass. Or something like that.

You're going to hear more about Nightress in the coming months, I'm sure. I hope the gods slow things down enough that we can learn each other better before getting in too deep, and not so much that we start to lose hope of ever being together. I think we already have planted the seeds of our future (and no, I don't mean she's pregnant, get your minds out of that place). Actually, while we talked for hours and hours, committed to each other, and had some good bits of making out, we kept our clothes on and even spent the night in our respective tents. So there.

One of the members of my Peer Support Training class back in January died today of internal injuries from a car accident. Prayers go skyward for the soul of Debra Lynn Teague.
